Our Story
The Advanced Health Education Center Foundation was founded with a clear mission:
to expand training opportunities for healthcare professionals passionate about mammography.
It began as the vision of AHEC’s founding partner, Marilyn Sackett, and with the support of three
dedicated healthcare educators, the foundation took its first steps in 2023.

Recognizing the critical shortage of qualified mammography professionals, the decline in accessible training programs, and the patient inequities caused by this shortage, the team launched a pilot program in partnership with AHEC through the GROW! Mammography Scholarship. Over four mammography initial training sessions, the program brought six technologists from three states to AHEC’s training center in Houston, TX. These professionals returned to their rural communities equipped with essential skills, directly improving access to life-saving breast imaging services in underserved areas.

The success of the pilot program demonstrated the profound impact of structured training support.
Inspired by this achievement, the educators sought to expand funding and opportunities
for certified healthcare professionals across the country. Their ultimate goal: to enhance
healthcare delivery and patient care in regions where access to specialized training opportunities
across various modalities remains limited.

This vision led to the establishment of the Advanced Health Education Center Foundation,
a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals. Through education, mentorship, and hands-on training, the foundation strengthens the imaging workforce—ensuring that communities in need receive the quality care they deserve.
